Styles
We currently offer two styles of martial arts at Yowell Karate. Below is a little information about them.
TANG SOO DO
The primary style taught in our Dojang is Tang Soo Do. It is a Korean martial art that has it's roots in Chinese, Okinawan and Japanese styles. The founder of our style was Grandmaster Hwang Kee. Grandmaster Hwang Kee founded the Moo Duk Kwan (Tang Soo Do) on November 9th, 1945.
Our lineage is as follows: Grandmaster Hwang Kee taught Shin Jae Shil, Shin Jae Shil taught Chuck Norris, Chuck Norris taught Duke Tirschel and Duke Tirschel taught James Yowell.
While there have been a few modifications to the current version of Tang Soo do that is taught here, we are still a traditional martial art. We recognize and respect where our art came from.
KENJUKIDO KENPO - JUJITSU
Thanks to Master Buddy Garrett, on Thursday nights at 7:30 p.m. we are able to offer Kenjukido Kenpo - Jujitsu. Master Garrett will instruct you in various ways to use an opponents own force against them. This includes joint locks, throws, kicks and strikes. For more information on this style please visit the National Kenjukido Federation website at www.kenjukido.com
