Programs

Listed below are all the programs that are offered here at Yowell Karate.

Ranger Program : Ages 3 - 6

Our 3-6 Year Old "Lil' Ranger" program is designed to teach our youngest students various life skills that will benefit them both within the studio and most importantly in life.  Through structured play and learning our youngest members acquire the following skills:

Develop Motor Skills.  While the students are having fun with games, relays and other training tools, they are  developing motor skills and coordination.  These motor skills will include, but not be limited to,  coordination skills, balance, flexibility, muscle strength, timing, mobility and more.  Some activities, while not directly related to Martial Arts, will contribute to the Martial Arts techniques being learned.  The motor skills learned in class will be a great benefit to the student, both inside and outside of the school, benefiting the child in a wide range of physical activities.

Develop Social Skills. The class is a great place for our youngest members to learn and develop social skills.  Students will learn to show respect towards other students and adults.  They will learn to work with other students and staff, take turns, share, communicate and a myriad of other valuable skills that will help them in life, and prepare them to succeed in school.

Promote Self-Confidence. Our students learn self-confidence, one of the most important life skills for a successful person.  They learn to be confident in themselves and their abilities, they learn that failure is not something to be feared, but a tool to better oneself.  They learn to be positive and optimistic and most importantly with this confidence they learn how to persevere and succeed in academics, sports and life in general.

Promote Self-Discipline. There is a difference between a 3-6 year old and a 12 year old.  We try to make classes fun and exciting, as at the ages of our youngest students, this is how they learn-they learn through play.  However, at times there is no escaping some reputation and just plain old hard work.  This serves a dual purpose, helping the children learn the so-called "nuts and bolts" and teaches them Self-Discipline.  Our students learn principles such as impulse control, delayed gratification, respect, patience, self-control, planning and organization.  These tools prepare them to succeed in both Martial Arts related activities and activities outside the school.

Develop learning skills. Learning involves a combination of mental, physical and emotional attributes.  Our goal is to encourage the development of these attributes by  developing a child's listening skills,  ability to follow directions and through physical coordination.  This is accomplished through positive reinforcement and encouragement.

Child Safety and Danger Awareness. Our youngest members will learn valuable rules to follow when dealing with strangers, how and when to dial 911, how to answer the phone and doors, how to avoid potentially dangerous situations and how to get help before it is too late!  In addition, they will learn basic self-defense techniques and when to use those techniques.  They will be instructed on when it is okay to use Martial Arts and when it is not.

Ready to Graduate into Our Junior's Program.  The Lil' Ranger classes will prepare our young students for the time when they will graduate into the more structured junior's program.  Many of our most successful and dedicated juniors started in the Ranger's program when they were just 4 or 5 years old.  This program gives them a head start in the world of Martial Arts and towards achieving the rank of Black Belt.

Junior Program : Ages 7 - 14

Our Junior's Program delivers a wide range of benefits through the instruction of traditional Martial Arts (specifically Tang Soo Do).  Our program empowers our children and young teenagers and helps give them the strength to say "No" to the negative influences they encounter, while teaching them to replace the negative with the positive.  Our program mentors and teaches, and most importantly through the building of self-confidence, self-esteem, a positive mental attitude and self image and development of leadership skills makes our students, instead of followers, leaders amongst their peers.

Martial Arts is a great way for your child to learn many of the skills he or she will need to cope with a fast changing world, and become highly successful in life.

Martial Arts is both a fun and positive activity, focusing on developing the body, mind and spirit.  In Martial Arts there are no bench warmers, every child participates and learns at their own pace.  Your child will learn to have fun and learn a satisfaction and appreciation for the rewards that come through hard work and dedication.

Adult Program : Ages 15 and up

Our Adult Program delivers a wide range of benefits through the instruction of traditional Martial Arts (specifically Tang Soo Do).  Our adult student's join us for a myriad of reasons, but whether you are looking to get into better physical conditioning, tone your body, learn self-defense, spend time with your family, spouse or significant other, become a Martial Arts expert, a National or World Champion Competitor or simply make new friends, we guarantee that you will not be disappointed with your decision to join us.

Whatever your reason for joining, our staff will work to assist you as your pursue your goals.  Our curriculum and approach to instruction is designed to fit all goals and all levels of experience from the beginner to the advanced practitioner.  You will truly enjoy the experience at our school, as there is no better way to spend your time than to spend it staying fit, building self-confidence, strengthen friendship or familial bonds through shared training, all while learning the art of self-defense.

Extreme Martial Arts Program

Have you ever seen movies where the action star is doing all those exciting jump flip kicks? The exetreme martial arts have become a figure head in Hollyhood and also on the tournament circuit. We offer classes on all these 'Fancy' techniques. We are affilliated with two local extreme martial art demo teams and are also members of the same association as the nationally recognized Team Sideswipe. Remember though, basics first. It is ideal to have a good strong traditional foundation before attempting the extreme.

Traditional Weapons Program

We offer training in a variety of classic martial arts weaponry. Contact us for more information on weapons training.

Extreme Weapons Program

Hey, if you can do a aerial why can't you do it with a sword in your hand? Our extreme weapons program can get you well on the way to performing some of those smooth looking fight scenes you see in the movies. Once again, a strong traditional foundation will help your extreme performance drastically.

Kenpo - Jujitsu Program

Our Kenpo-Jujitsu classes are instructed by Mr. Buddy Garrett, an expert in hand-to-hand and self-defense.  The style being instructed is described below.

Kenjukido - The Way of The Power of The Gentle Fist - is a system of strikes, kicks, throws, nerve manipulation, and joint locks that can generally be employed in a rapid 1-2-3 approach to self defense.  That is: 1.  Avoid the attack, 2. Take control, and 3. End the fight.  Kenjukido is more a way of thinking than it is a set of hard, fast rules based on traditional martial arts.  Like any martial art involving strikes, kicks, throws, nerve manipulation and joint locks, Kenjukido uses the basic techniques known to most martial arts practitioners and builds on them through a series of principles - balance, flow, tool to target, zone defense, and muscle memorization.

Womens Self Defense Program

On occasion we have requests from the local community to schedule a Womens Self Defense Seminar. This is a perfect opportunity for women to learn a little self defense and gain more self confidence. Whether you are single, in a relationship, working or a student, this program can benefit you. Contact us for more information.

Private Lessons

Private lessons can be arranged in addition to normal class. Usually these lessons are scheduled for Saturdays but can also be set up for Sundays. Please contact us for more information.

Lock-In's

Periodically we schedule lock-ins for our students. They are a great opportunity for students to spend time with each other in a 'non-student' fashion. Students are also encouraged to bring friends to the lock-ins. Parents are always welcome as well. Both as participants and as chaperone's.

Even though lock-ins are intended for fun and relaxation, we still organize activites that promote fair play, cooperation and common courtesy. Examples of activities that can occur are volleyball, basketball and board games.

Movie Nights

Movie nights are another fun activity that we schedule regularly. Normally held on a Friday night, we invite students and parents to come share popcorn with us while we watch a movie. Most movies are martial arts related and all are of a PG rating. We do not neglect our Rangers either, some movies are specifially scheduled with them in mind.

Birthday Parties

Have you ever thought of having a martial arts themed birthday party? Call us for more information on our offered birthday packages.
